SlimFix™ and HeatMax™ Product Launches To save Time And Money Underfloor Heating Installations

Continental Underfloor Heating has launched SlimFix™, a new fitting system and the HeatMax™ range of controls. Both new product launches have been designed to speed up UFH installations, helping to save time and money.

SlimFix™

The launch of a revolutionary, slim-line fitting system is set to save time and money on under floor heating (UFH) installations Continental Underfloor Heating’s new SlimFix™ system enables UFH to be fitted in just one inch (25mm) of floor space and takes 50% less time to fit.

SlimFix™ is aimed primarily at the ‘retro fit’ market, which has been somewhat limited to date as traditionally, underfloor heating raises floor heights by 75mm or more.

Commenting on the launch of SlimFix™, Chris Ingram, Managing Director of Continental Underfloor Heating said: “SlimFix™ offers an easy-to-fit and cost-effective solution for fitting underfloor heating systems into refurbishment projects in just one inch of floor space and for speeding up installation into joisted first floors.”

The result of 18 months’ intensive development and testing by Continental’s Research & Development team, SlimFix™ comprises a highly flexible, thick foil through which UFH pipe brackets can be fitted. Its effectiveness has been tested thoroughly by the BSRIA and the system has been trialled on-site in a variety of projects around the UK.

SlimFix™ is now available in two versions – SlimFix™ Slab and SlimFix™ Joist – which have been shown to overcome key issues faced by underfloor heating installers.

Refurbishment and underfloor heating

For existing properties undergoing refurbishment, traditional screed methods create a large increase in floor height (typically up to 150mm). This means costly and time-consuming changes are needed to fittings, such as door heights, kitchen cabinets and skirting boards, which can often mean the loss of a contract.

The new SlimFix™ Slab system minimises the need for such changes as it adds just 25mm to the floor height and can be fitted over an existing screed, slab or wood flooring

Joisted first floors and underfloor heating

When it comes to fitting under floor heating to joisted first floors, traditional methods rely upon using expensive channelled insulation with aluminium spreader plates or require the addition of a sand-cement dry mix which can be a weight issue, particularly for timber frame homes. These methods are also time-consuming, resulting in high installation costs.

The SlimFix™ Joist system simply rolls out across and between the joists, prior to fitting pipe brackets into which the pipes are clipped. The simplicity of the system results in much quicker installations.

Chris Ingram, continued: “We believe in testing products thoroughly before we launch them. Prior to site testing we thought we had a ground breaking system in SlimFix™ but the feedback from installers involved in the testing exceeded our expectations. They said fitting time was reduced by 50% and, in one case, a whole first floor was fitted in three hours.

One of the installers involved in the testing, Martin Allbrush of MA Construction, says: “SlimFix™ has allowed me to offer options to customers who were previously unable to benefit from UFH. Continental has spent a lot of time developing this system to ensure its suitability and I am now offering it to most of my customers.”

SlimFix™ is suitable for use with the entire Continental range, including the popular FlowMaster™, AluPEX and AluPERT tubing and the cost effective FlowMaster™ PEX pipe. Continental’s components and systems are manufactured and designed in accordance with all European and UK standards, including ISO9001 and DIN4726.

Heatmax™

The new Heatmax™ range of wiring centres, system controllers and thermostats offers five levels of control, designed to meet a variety of budgets and requirements:

  1. Heatmax™ rotary dial thermostat with Heatmax™ controller
  2. Heatmax™ digital thermostat system with Heatmax™ controller
  3. Heatmax™ rotary dial thermostat system with integral night set-back and built in time clock
  4. Heatmax™ digital thermostat system with integral night set-back and built in time clock
  5. Heatmax™ fully programmable thermostat system

Bill McConnel, Continental’s Technical Director comments, “The new Heatmax™ range offers increased flexibility and control options. We have spent over a year developing the system to make it simpler and faster for electricians to install, as well as making the system ‘control intuitive’ for the end-user.”
